Ohio Woman Nabbed With 8,000 Fentanyl Pills, 280 Pounds Of Drugs In Arizona

Authorities caught an Ohio woman transporting nearly 300 pounds of drugs, including thousands of fentanyl pills, during a traffic stop on Tuesday (December 1).

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped the 2016 Dodge Ram near Cordes Junction, Arizona.

Crystal Briley, 39, of Ohio, was apparently speeding and unable to stay in her lane, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Yavapai County deputy noticed an “overwhelming odor of fresh marijuana” and noted that Briley appeared “extremely nervous” while speaking with the deputy.

Briley denied that there were drugs in the car — apart from “a small amount of marijuana in her purse” — and refused to allow the deputy to search the car when asked.

“As a result, the deputy requested a K9 unit to the scene to conduct a ‘free air’ exterior sniff around the truck,” according to the sheriff’s office. “A Department of Public Safety trooper and his K9 arrived and during a walk around the vehicle, the K9 alerted to odor of illicit drugs.”

Officials seized more than 280 pounds of marijuana, four pounds of cocaine and 8,000 fentanyl pills, which Briley said didn’t belong to her.

Partner’s Against Narcotics Trafficking detectives are investigating, according to the sheriff’s office.

Briley faces drug charges and was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
