Tennessee Dog Becomes Oldest Golden Retriever In History

A dog from Tennessee is the oldest golden retriever in history and is showing almost no signs of old age. August, or "Augie" was born on April 24, 2000, and recently celebrated her 20th birthday. Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt adopted Augie six years ago, when she was 14-years-old.

When they adopted Augie, people were surprised anybody would want an older dog, especially because golden retrievers typically live between ten and 12 years.

In the six-years since adopting Augie, they have taken her on RV trips around the country and she has become an important part of their family. Despite being the oldest golden retriever alive, Augie still enjoys taking walks in the yard and playing with her golden retriever siblings, Sherman, Belle, and Bruce.

GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue shared photos of Augie celebrating her birthday with a dog-friendly carrot cake shaped like a bone and a bandana tied around her neck.
