Restaurant Donates Sunday Sales To Small Businesses Impacted By COVID-19

Small businesses look out for each other.

While owners of Chicago City Pizza, John and Renee Stamper, "don't have a lot of money in the bank account," they are still working to lend a helping hand to other small business owners.

"Giving is very contagious," John told Indiana's local station WHAS11. "I just hope that out of the spirit of giving, we can try to save as many as we can. A lot of small businesses aren't looking for loans. They don't want loans. Their ability to make money was taken away from them."

He went on to detail the idea that he and his wife came up with to help those, who like them, are struggling during the ongoing global health crisis, saying they have decided to donate all the money they earn on Sundays —food sales and tips — to a struggling small business. However, in order to receive the donation, the small business also has to lend a hand.

"If you want the money you just have to come down here and work the window to see all your customers, and the other person has to come in the back and help me make the pizzas and do dishes," John explained. Adding, his fellow business owners aren't "looking for any special treatment, they're just looking for a way out of this mess."

For their first Sunday of the month, they donated more than $2,200 to a southern Indiana family in need. The couple said that's only the beginning as they plan to continue to donate their Sunday profits through the month, and possibly longer.

"If I can do my part... God will take care of all the rest of it, that's the way I believe," John told the outlet.
