Weather Channel Sued Over Death Of Man Killed In Crash With Storm Chasers

The family of a Texas man who was killed in a 2017 car accident with stars of the Weather Channel's show Storm Wranglers has filed a lawsuit against the network. Corbin Lee Jaeger was killed when Kelley Williamson and Randy Yarnall ran a stop sign and crashed into his Jeep while they were live streaming their attempt to find a tornado on the Weather Channel’s Facebook page. Williamson and Yarnall were also killed in the horrific accident.

Jaeger's mother, Karen Di Piazza, filed a wrongful death lawsuit accusing the Weather Channel of ignoring Willamson's and Yarnell's “well-documented history of dangerous behavior behind the wheel."

The complaint points out that there were numerous videos on Williamson’s YouTube channel that showed the pair routinely violating traffic laws and documented at least 80 instances in which they were seen running stop signs.

“TWC had the opportunity to pull these two individuals off the road or hire a competent, law-abiding driver,” the complaint states. “Instead, TWC made Williamson and Yarnall television stars, breaking laws, driving on private property, driving off-road, in ditches, through hail storms, drive the wrong way on freeway ramps, on the wrong side of the roadway, through red lights and stop signs, all to increase the sense of danger to their television audience and sell advertising and have a hit show. The result was the death of young Corbin Lee Jaeger.”

Jaeger’s family is seeking $125 million in damages from the Weather Channel.
